Engine brake

Safety measures.

What is Engine brake:

It is a braking technique of bike which is safer than any other braking system. In simple terms, engine braking refers to slowing down the bike by simply releasing the throttle without using the brakes or clutch. Let me explain it in an easy way: Imagine you're riding your bike in 3rd gear at 70 km/h. At this point, if you just release the throttle and let the engine naturally slow down the bike, that’s what engine braking is.

Key Points:

  • No brakes or clutch used.
  • Only the throttle is released.
  • The engine’s resistance gradually reduces speed.

Benefits of Engine Braking:

  • Saves Brake Wear: Reduces reliance on brake pads, preventing overheating.
  • Better Control: Provides smoother deceleration, especially on downhill rides.
  • Improved Traction: Unlike sudden brake use, engine braking applies gradual resistance, reducing skid risk.

When to Use It:

  • Downhill Riding: Helps maintain speed without overheating brakes.
  • Wet/Slippery Roads: Safer than hard braking in low-traction conditions.
  • Traffic Situations: Allows controlled slowing without abrupt braking.

Pro tips:

  • Avoid downshifting too aggressively (can cause rear wheel lock-up).
  • Combine with light brake use for optimal stopping power.
  • When one will become used to with this brake, consequently he will understand rev matching, at this stage the experienced rider will able to downshift & it will enhance the braking performance.
